This listing consists of one very handsome Apache Tear Alien Skull. Apache Tears are small 'drops' of near-black natural gemmy Obsidian. When held in the hand, they appear completely black and opaque, but when held to a bright light it is apparent that they really are translucent and the colour of dark Smokey Quartz! Apache Tears are found near Superior, Arizona.

It is very realistically carved with detailed "Grey Alien" features, as the photos below show. The jaws and cheekbones are hollowed out and the cranial suture lines are carved in, adding much to the realism. The immaculate high-gloss polish is the 'icing on the cake' for this skull! This skull measures 1.6 inches or 40mm front to back and weighs in at .07 lb or 32g. This is a convenient size for a carry-along companion. You will receive one similar to the photos

There is a haunting legend about the Apache tear drop. After the Pinal Apaches had made several raids on a settlement in Arizona, the military regulars and some volunteers trailed the tracks of the stolen cattle and waited for dawn to attack the Apaches. The Apaches, confident in the safety of their location, were completely surprised and out numbered in the attack. Nearly 50 of the band of 75 Apaches were killed in the first volley of shots. The rest of the tribe retreated to the cliff's edge and chose death by leaping over the edge rather than die at the hands of the white men.

For years afterward those who ventured up the treacherous face of Bid Pacacho in Arizona found skeletons, or could see the bleached bones wedged in the crevices of the side of the cliff. (Bid Pacacho has since been renamed "Apache Leap" in the late 1800's).

The Apache women and the lovers of those who had died gathered a short distance from the base of the cliff where the sands were white, and for a moon they wept for their dead. They mourned greatly, for they realized that not only had their 75 brave Apache warriors died, but with them had died the great fighting spirit of the Pinal Apaches.

Their sadness was so great, and their burden of sorrow so sincere that the Great Father imbedded into black stones the tears of the Apache women who mourned their dead. These black obsidian stones, when held to the light, reveal the translucent tear of the Apache. The stones bring good luck to those possessing them. It is said that whoever owns an Apache tear drop will never have to cry again, for the Apache maidens have shed their tears in place of yours.

Metaphysically, the Symbol of the Skull represents The Higher Mind. To attain the higher mind of spiritual awareness and psychic ability we must be released from the thrall of the lower cognitive mind. The Skull also symbolizes Change, which is truly the great healer of all situations, conditions and troubles. Without Change in our lives, we do not spiritually grow. In many cultures around the world, the Skull is seen as the House of the Soul and revered because of it's tremendous importance to us as human beings.

It is my experience that working with a Crystal Skull is a multi-dimensional journey of discovery, enlightenment, and growth. They can be excellent catalysts for Healing, Dreamwork, Meditation, Past Life Recall, Spiritualism and Self-Improvement on many levels. Anyone with an interest in Metaphysics should have a Crystal Skull!

Metaphysically, Apache Tear Obsidian is called The Stone of Emotional Balance and Protection.
